Checklist for moving
Consider at least these things
Current tenancy agreement
If you are moving from a rental apartment, remember to give notice on the agreement in time. You must give notice on the agreement before the new agreement can be signed. The period of notice is usually one calendar month.
Notification of change of address
To get your post correctly, submit a notification of change of address in good time. You can submit the notification electronically here. This will update your new address for all authorities, including many banks, publishing houses and insurance companies. However, make a list of places where you may need to provide your new address by other means. You are, for example, responsible for ensuring that your bills end up in the correct address after the move.
Get a new one or transfer your current electricity contract to the new home in due time. Today, it is easy to compare electricity rates between companies. Visit, for example, the http://www.sahkonhinta.fi/ site provided by the Energy Authority.
Home insurance is a smart choice also for people living in rental apartments. Espoon Asunnot’s real estate insurance does not cover the tenant’s furnishings in case of sudden and unforeseen damage to the property. You should shop around for home insurance. Ask for an offer from, for example, three insurance companies, or compare prices online.
If you already have home insurance, tell the insurance company that you are moving and check if the current insurance is suitable for the new apartment as well. Make sure that the insurance is also valid during the move because you never know what might happen.
If you receive benefits, submit the necessary forms to Kela in good time. Kela does not, for example, automatically grant housing allowance for a dwelling based on a notification of change of address.
Secure a moving vehicle and help in good time
The ends and beginnings of months are busy times for movers, so you should rent the moving vehicle well in advance. It is also a good idea to ask your friends for help in good time.
When you signed the agreement, you were given a condition statement for the apartment. Remember to complete and return the condition statement after the move. Use the link to read more about the statement.
Get a smoke detector
The tenant is responsible for acquiring the mandatory smoke detector in the apartment.
If you plan to renovate or paint your new home, always request written permission from the building manager.
After the move, sit down on the couch with “A guide to good living” and read the tips and instructions provided in it. At this point, you should also read Espoon Asunnot’s rules and regulations.
