Checklist for moving

There is a lot to remember when you move. Do you feel like forget something important? Not to worry, the below checklist for moving by Espoon Asunnot helps you to take care of all that is required.

The most important things to take care of

Tenancy agreement

You can download the rental agreement for yourself via a separate link. This link can be found in the e-mail message of the Signom service that you received after signing the rental agreement. The contract is kept in the service for 90 days.

Collecting the keys

Your tenancy agreement includes the start date of the agreement. On this date, you can pick up the keys from the maintenance company or the company that does key management for your property. The contact details for the company are included in an attachment you receive in your confirmation email.

The company will need to see the tenancy agreement and your ID before giving you the keys to the apartment against a signature. If you signed the tenancy agreement electronically, show it to the maintenance service from your mobile phone or print it out and bring it with you. If you signed the tenancy agreement at our customer service point, show the agreement that was given to you. The keys are also returned to the maintenance company or key management company at the end of the tenancy.

Condition statement

We kindly ask you to assess the condition of your new apartment within two weeks of the start of your rental agreement. We utilise the condition statement to assess the condition of the apartment when residents change, so please complete your statement as carefully as possible. By filling in and submitting the condition statement, you can ensure that you will not be held liable for any damage caused by the previous resident.

  • Condition statement in English. We recommend using the electronic form, as you can include photos of your apartment.
  • If you are unable to fill in the electronic form, you can also fill in the condition statement form that you received as an e-mail attachment and submit it to our customer service e-mail at asiakaspalvelu@espoonasunnot.fi.

Please note that any defects or deficiencies that affect living must always be separately reported to the maintenance company. The maintenance company will not receive information about defects that are only listed on the condition statement.

A resident who is moving out is responsible for thoroughly cleaning the apartment. Please notify our customer service if the apartment has not been properly cleaned.

Notification of change of address

Submit a change of address / a notification of move well in advance before moving to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (Digi- ja väestötietovirasto), Posti (Finnish postal service), and the property management company. Additionally, create a list of places where you may need to provide your new address through other means. For instance, you are responsible for ensuring that bills are sent to the correct address after the move.

Digital and Population Data Services Agency and Posti

By submitting a change of address through Posti's online service, you ensure that:

  • Your information is updated in the population information system for authorities.
  • Posti can deliver mail to your new home.

Property Management Company

By submitting a change of address to the property management company through their website, you ensure that:

  • The resident list in the stairwell and the name on your apartment door are correct.
  • If you forget or lose your key, the property management can verify that you have the right to enter the apartment. The door will only be opened for individuals confirmed to be residing in that specific unit.

Other important things to remember

Current tenancy agreement

If you are moving from a rental apartment, remember to give notice on the agreement in time. You must give notice on the agreement before the new agreement can be signed. The period of notice is usually one calendar month.

Electricity contract

Get a new one or transfer your current electricity contract to the new home in due time. Today, it is easy to compare electricity rates between companies. Visit, for example, the site provided by the Energy Authority.

Home insurance

Home insurance is a smart choice also for people living in rental apartments. Espoon Asunnot’s real estate insurance does not cover the tenant’s furnishings in case of sudden and unforeseen damage to the property. You should shop around for home insurance. Ask for an offer from, for example, three insurance companies, or compare prices online.

If you already have home insurance, tell the insurance company that you are moving and check if the current insurance is suitable for the new apartment as well. Make sure that the insurance is also valid during the move because you never know what might happen.

Benefits

If you receive benefits, submit the necessary forms to Kela in good time. Kela does not, for example, automatically grant housing allowance for a dwelling based on a notification of change of address.

Secure a moving vehicle and help in good time

The ends and beginnings of months are busy times for movers, so you should rent the moving vehicle well in advance. It is also a good idea to ask your friends for help in good time.

Get a smoke detector

A smoke detector is mandatory in all our apartments. As a resident, it is your responsibility to make sure it works. The alarm must be tested once a month and whenever you have been away from home for a longer time.

After moving

After the move, sit down on the couch with “A guide to good living” and read the tips and instructions provided in it. At this point, you should also read "Espoon Asunnot’s rules and regulations".

If you smoke, check your tenancy agreement for the smoking rules for your apartment and property. There are smoking restrictions in our properties, and some of our properties are completely smoke-free. More information about the smoking rules.
