Get home insurance
It is important that you take out home insurance and that it is also valid during your move. It is also good to have liability insurance in your home insurance. Liability insurance usually also covers damage caused by the policyholder to others or to the property of others.
If you have home insurance for your old home, notify your insurance company of your move. Also check whether your home insurance policy is suitable for your new home.
Espoon Asunnot has property insurance for its buildings. This insurance only covers damage to the buildings. It does not cover damage to the tenant’s personal belongings.
That is why the tenant’s own home insurance is important.
Remember the electricity contract
Take out a new electricity contract with an electricity company of your choice or transfer your old electricity contract to your new home in good time.
Register for the internet connection included in the rent
Your rent includes a broadband connection provided by Elisa. Register as a user and ask Elisa about the technical implementation.
You can register for a new broadband connection:
- Online on Elisa’s website, in which case you will need online banking credentials or a mobile ID.
- At an Elisa store, where a salesperson completes the registration and answers any questions related to the connection.
- By calling Elisa’s customer service.
When you subscribe to an internet connection
- You need a router to access the internet. You can order it at the same time as you order your internet connection. You can see the price in the order form. You can also use your current router or modem if it supports VDSL2 technology. The purchase of a router and any related costs are the tenant’s responsibility.
- If you have an internet connection with another operator, remember to cancel it.
Cable TV
- No registration is required to access cable TV.
- All you need is an HD-compatible TV or cable set-top box for your cable network.
If there is a broadband or cable network fault, contact Elisa’s customer service
If you receive Kela benefits, notify Kela of your move
If you receive housing support, request Kela to adjust the amount. Remember to do this well in advance. Your move may affect how much support you get from Kela.
For example, Kela does not automatically adjust your housing support based on your move. You must apply for the support yourself and tell Kela about any changes in your situation.
