The biggest savers in our energy saving competition for November and December are out!

We are part of the government’s joint energy saving campaign ‘Down a Degree.’ We are organising an energy saving competition for our properties as part of our own campaign activities.

The two categories in our energy saving competition, heat and electricity, kicked off at the beginning of November. With  three months of competition behind us, it is time to announce the first interim results for both categories.

Heat savings equivalent to the annual heat consumption of Holmankorpi 1

This category involves properties competing to see which can reduce its heating costs the most compared to the corresponding period the previous year. The energy savings are calculated as the consumption difference in kilowatt hours between the reference period 1 November 2021–30 April 2022 and the competition period 1 November 2022–30 April 2023.

When taking into account all the properties in the competition, the total heat energy consumption fell by 2.5% (934.8 MWh) in November and December. The savings are equivalent to the number of megawatt hours of thermal energy consumed per year by, for example, our 101-unit Holmankorpi 1 block of flats.

2. Matinkallio 7
3. Suvelantie 8

The total amount of electricity saved would be enough for vacuuming for 109 years straight

This category involves properties competing to see which can reduce its electricity consumption the most compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. The energy savings are calculated as the consumption difference in kilowatt hours between the reference period 1 November 2021–30 April 2022 and the competition period 1 November 2022–30 April 2023. The aggregate reports also include electricity consumed by the residents, but we do not have access to the consumption data of individual housing units.

Total electricity consumption in our properties decreased by 9.3% or 957.8 MWh in November and December. Our everyday example illustrates the scale of the savings achieved by working together: a single household could vacuum without interruption for 109 years straight before the energy saved would be used up!

TOP5 in the electricity category

1. Saarniraiviontie 6
2. Suvelantie 8 B
3. Ankkuritie 6
4. Tiistinnkallio 1
5. Aspelininkuja 2

The competition continues until May Day Eve

Everyone’s contribution will be needed in the energy saving efforts, because the high price of energy and possible availability issues will impact all of our daily lives this winter. Our energy saving competition will also continue until May Day Eve. Between May and June, the top three buildings in both categories will be rewarded with great prizes to be used to improve the comfort of their premises.

You can find useful energy saving tips through all of our communication channels, including social media. So now, if ever, is the time to start following us on Facebook and Instagramissa, gather the tips for later use and share some of your own ideas.

Many small streams make one big river, which is also true of energy consumption. This means that even individual actions that may seem insignificant make a difference.
